Nottinghamshire
is a county in the East Midlands of England,
with South Yorkshire to the North West and Lincolnshire to the
south. The county is spread across 830 square miles and has an approximate
population of 1 million people. The county town is the city of Nottingham. Other towns are Worksop and
Mansfield.
The River
Trent runs through Nottingham. The Trent is one of England’s major rivers, meeting the
Ouse at the Humber Estuary.
Nottingham
is well known for boasting many historical attractions including Nottingham Castle. This was built after the Norman
invasion and now hosts cave tours informing visitors about the history of Nottingham. Nottingham
is also home to over 400 caves, with many of them hidden underneath the shops
and houses of the city.
Nottinghamshireis famous for being home to Robin Hood. There is even a Robin Hood Airport. The
county is full of many attractions dedicated to the famous outlaw such as The
Robin Hood Trail. Sherwood Forest covers over
1000 acres and has been continuously forested since the end of the last ice
age. Half a million tourists visit every year and there is a week-long Robin
Hood festival each summer.
