Derbyshire
 

Derbyshire is a county located in the east midlands of England. The county has a population of over a million residents and covers 2,625km2 of land.

Derbyshire is home to a substantial portion of the Peak District National Park. Many visitors arrive in the county to explore the hills such as Kinder Scout. Towns such as Buxton have thriving tourist economies.  The county also contains part of The National Forest and borders Greater Manchester and Yorkshire. Derbyshire is a non-metropolitan county and contains approximately 30 towns. Other neighbouring counties are Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.

Derbyshire’s premier city is Derby, one of the UK’s youngest cities. The county is also well known for its range of cultural attractions such as The Aboretum, Britain’s first public park. 

Derbyshire is home to two major football clubs: Derby County F.C. and Chesterfield F.C., as well as many non-league clubs including Sheffield F.C., the oldest club in the country.

Famous residents of Derbyshire include Bob Wilson (footballer), John Hurt (actor) and Vivienne Westwood (fashion designer).
