Lancashire
is county located in the north west of England. Lancashire is commonly known as
the county of Lancaster, with its county town being Lancaster. The county is
spread across a total of 1,189 square miles and has an approximate population
of 1.5 million people. Rivers in Lancashire include the Ribble, Wyre and Lune.
Lancashire
has many well known for seaside resorts including Morecambe Beach and Blackpool
Pleasure Beach, which is the most visited tourist attraction in the UK.
Blackpool has three piers, there is a log flume on the South Pier.
Lancashire
also offers a range of historical attractions including Turton Tower, which was
originally built by a Tudor family and has now been developed into a visitor
attraction with a museum. Other historic attractions include Hoghton Tower,
Browsholme Hall and Gawthorpe Hall.
Lancashire’s
past and former residents include Sarah Cox, TV and Radio One presenter. Others
include Will Greenwood (England rugby player), Steven Burke (cyclist) and
Victoria Wood (writer).
Lancashire
is also home to many sport teams including Lancashire County Cricket Club which
has been one of the most successful cricket teams in Britain. Lancashire has 14
districts including Blackpool, Burnley and Hyndburn.
