Hertford

Hertford is located in Hertfordshire, 29 miles from London. The town has a population of approximately 24,000 people.

Hertford is the county town of Hertfordshire. Hertford is home to a variety of landmarks including Hertford Castle. The castle is Norman in origin and is believed to have been built in 911. Other landmarks throughout the town include Parliament Square, so named because the Parliament of England moved to the town during the plague in the 16th century. Also significant is the oldest known Quakers meeting house.

Hertford is situated between four rivers: The Lee, Mimram, Beane and Rib. The rivers are commonly used for river cruises and boat hire.

Famous residents from Hertford over the years include; Rupert Grint (starr of the Harry Potter Films), who grew up in Hertford and attended the Richard Hale School.  Other famous residents include Dani Filth (singer) and Samuel Stone, who established the American town of Hartford having moved there in the English original.

Neighbouring towns include Harpenden (15 miles) and Welwyn Garden City (7 miles).
